10 Documentary Photographers To Follow On Instagram

An Italian-American photographer born and raised in Chicago, Pinto spends his time photographing everyday life capturing moments in time as a visual story-teller. His project ‘Nancy’ follows Nancy, a woman suffering from Depression trying to live an everyday life with the burden of the physical and emotional stresses on her life held captive by the depression. Pinto uses this project to shine a light on the difficulties of living, and to give a face to it that many don’t see.
Based in Nottinghamshire, David Severn spends his time documenting the working class culture in Northen England, through the landscape and the people who inhabit it. Photographing in large format prints, the colours of his images and detail bring his stories to life.
His series Thanks Maggie documents the closure of the last coal mine in Nottinghamshire and its effects on the area and the people who have spent their years there and the many before them. The emotions documented in these photographs truly relate the changing of history these areas have been subject too.
Using an intrusive 8x10 camera, Miller manages to capture serene images of the world around him. Capturing people in their natural states, Miller invites us into their worlds through narratives.
Morning bus is a series created by Miller after feeling affected by the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012 in the States. He has been documenting children waiting for their bus to school alongside the road side. Doing this, he documents the innocence and vulnerability amidst the dangers of the world in wonderful expressive prints.
Based in Louisiana, Widmer photographs for an array of clients, whilst documenting the many lives of people across America and some of the hardships that fall upon the land. Most recently photographing a selection of people affect by Hurricane Harvey, giving us a personal experience of the trauma. With the intensity of the current president and his relationship with the Mexican border, Widmer has been photographing the high tech missions to combat drug trafficking and illegal immigration across the border in his detailed series Rio Grande Reconnaissance.
Documenting his daily life in Tanzania, blnding portraits of inhabitants with the landscape With warm earthy tones, vox transports us to wherever he is while expressing the small joys of life through photography. Vox also uses his postiton in photography to generate images for great causes including Water Aid, and the fight for womens rights. Alongisde his images, Vox details information about who, what or where he is photographing to make the image less two dimensional.
Photographing a mix of landscapes and portraits, Matjaz Krivic uses photography to document traditions and cultures across the world than many of us may not know of. He focuses on the poorer parts of the world and the characters that live there. With each photograph we learn more about worlds that seem so far away, we are educated while engaging with beautiful photographs by Krivic. The series ‘Digging the Future’ follows the gold production line in Burkino Faso and the painful and dangerous lives of the community digging for gold.
Based in Kenya and an award winning photographer, Nichole Sobecki spends her time photographing important current affairs including human rights and climate change bringing the issues to light through powerful photographs.
Her series Climate for conflict documents Africa's battle with climate change particularly in Somalia, where these disastrous weather changes are altering life and land. With excellent composition, stories and characters are revealed through her images.
With muted tones and peaceful pastels, Colantoni documents the beauty of the island of Sicily, welcoming us into the land. With a mix of landscapes, architecture and portraits, these images transport you to a tranquil world that is hard to believe exists.
