Zealous X 2016 Photography Exhibition
If you need one reason to be excited for the New Year, this is it. Diogo Duarte’s ‘Unconscious commands and Judgements of our century’, will be exhibited at Zealous X’s 2016 festival. Featured in the latest issue of #PHOTOGRAPHY, Duarte is quickly becoming a noticed photographer.
Having an unreal, futuristic feel, Duarte makes his viewers think beyond the visuals, ‘a moment in my life when my internal sense of self was clinically coming apart at the seams’. Originally born in Portugal, Duarte moved to England in 2007, where he began to explore self-portraiture. ‘Unconscious commands and Judgments of our century’ is a series of images focusing on how Duarte grew up in his hometown in the 1990’s as a homosexual man. His most recent body of work feels more forced, tactile and unnatural compared to his previous projects, creating accurate visualizations for the photographer’s intentions. The emotionless sitter and sterile interior somehow provokes controversy and deep feelings within the viewer, ‘I've become fascinated with how non acceptance of one self and one's surroundings causes so much unhappiness’.
Held In Shoreditch, the photography exhibition is free to visit, however there is a number of workshops, gaming, filming and talks from professionals taking place in the festival, so be sure to grab yourself a tickets, part of which goes back to the aritsts themselves.
