Metamorphosis. Black Butterfly Photo exhibition by Olga Volodina

When: 10th-24th March 2016

Russian photographer Olga Volodina presents a photographic exhibition focussed on the representation of fragile human consciousness influenced by mass media and hypocrisy of the modern society. Her work aims to highlight the dangerous nature of information control and how easily those who regulate mass media can govern our perception of reality, creating a safe illusion of freedom and choice meanwhile with a firm grasp on our understanding of what's really happening.

Motifs such as bodies in bandages symbolise the stricken mankind, weakened by prejudices and fears and vulnerable to manipulations. Black and white emphasize the boundaries between good and evil that humanity is balancing on. Olga aims to highlight how "information is one of the most dangerous weapons now", the power of a cosmetic surgeon can change physical appearance of a person, those who control mass media can change the perception of how reality appears to us and create the illusion of freedom and choice.

Born in Moscow and currently residing in Bangkok, Olga is the author of several social and art photo projects featured on TV and exhibited in art several galleries. Her work is personal, often evoking an intimate connection and relationship with the viewer.

‘Photography is an exploration of how the camera translates my feelings, thoughts and attitudes’.

People are the main source of inspiration for Olga. Her controversial inner world catalyses the conveying a message within a single frame, which leads to strong framed images and effective uses of light. After the grand opening night of Metamorphosis exhibition, YenakArt Gallery will be hosting a series of exclusive art portraits photo shooting. For a span of 10 days (March 14-24) there will be unique chance for anyone to become a part of the photo project and get a personal professionally printed portrait in the style of Metamorphosis.
